The DNA Twin Zygosity Test will conclusively determine if twins are identical (monozygotic) or fraternal (dizygotic) by comparing their DNA profiles. Identical twins are genetically identical and will share exactly the same DNA profile whereas fraternal twins only share approximately 50% of their DNA in common. The full genetic report is included with every test.

Description
During a DNA twin test, a buccal swab (mouth swab) is collected from each twin to obtain cells containing genetic information in the form of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Most cells in our body contain a full set of genetic information unique to each individual, like a fingerprint.
In the laboratory, the DNA is extracted from the cells, and specific DNA regions are amplified through a process called PCR (polymerase chain reaction) for thorough examination. The DNA patterns of the twins are then compared to determine whether they are identical or fraternal twins with conclusive results.
Turnaround Time
DNA Twin Testing is completed 1 to 3 business days after the samples arrive at the laboratory. Results are released immediately once the testing is completed.

Legal Twin Test Fee Schedule for Year 2023
For legal testing, a specimen collection and witnessing charge of $50 will apply for each individual whose sample is collected at one of our locations in Canada, and $100 for each individual whose sample is collected overseas. A $25 charge will apply if individuals in the same case are collected at different locations.

Who should consider the Private Test option?
The private home test kit option is suitable for individuals who wish to find out the truth about maternity before deciding on the next step. If a private test is ordered, a buccal swab (mouth) swab DNA kit is sent directly to the parties involved in the test for sample collection. The sample collection process is quick, easy and discreet and takes just minutes to complete. Once the laboratory receives the samples, testing is completed within 1 to 3 business days.
Can the kit be shipped to more than one address?
If the parties to be tested live at different addresses, we can split the kit and send the kit to each address separately. Since the kits are individually barcode labeled, they will be tested together once the samples arrive back at the laboratory. To order a split kit, simply state "please split this kit" in the comments box of the online order form. Please also indicate which name and address to send each component. Alternatively, you can choose to have the entire kit shipped to you and you can split the kit yourself and send the components to the other parties in the test.
Can the test be performed on twins of any age?
There are no age limitations for taking the twin zygosity test. The test can be performed quickly and easily at any age, even newborns.
Is the Private Home DNA Test as accurate as the Legal Test?
The Home DNA Test is just as accurate as our standard legal tests and will provide absolutely conclusive results. The only difference between the private test and the legal test is whether the sample collection is witnessed.
How long does it take to receive the results?
Results are available in 1 to 3 business days once our laboratory receives the samples from all parties involved in the test.
