What is the difference between Private and Legal Tests?

The private test is intended for individuals who need to know the truth about a relationship in private before deciding on the next step to take. If the private test is chosen, a home swab kit is sent directly to the parties involved so that the samples can be collected quickly and discreetly in the privacy of your own home.

The legal test is intended for individuals who need to use the results in court. As a mandatory requirement of the legal test, the sample collection must be performed and witnessed by an unbiased third party who has no interest in the outcome of the test using a strict chain-of-custody collection procedure. Clients can choose to arrange their own witnessing and collection can use the legal version of our Home kit, or they can choose to have us arrange for professional sample collection and witnessing at one of our hundreds of legal collection facilities in the United States and Canada.

Both the legal and the private tests are equally accurate. The only difference is whether the sample collection is witnessed or collected in private. Please rest assured, that regardless of which test type you choose, you will receive the highest quality DNA test with absolute accuracy.

Professional Collection and Witnessing Services

For legal testing, the sample collection must be performed and witnessed by an unbiased third party who has no interest in the outcome of the test using a strict chain-of-custody collection procedure (such as a physician, notary or lawyer). Clients can choose to arrange their own witnessing, or they can choose to have us arrange professional sample collection and witnessing at one of our hundreds of legal collection facilities located throughout the United States and Canada. The cost for Professional Collection and Witnessing is $50 per person (Fees may be higher in remote areas and Alaska or Hawaii). If you would like us to arrange collection and witnessing for you, please choose the Professional Collection and Witnessing Services option.
